INTRODUCTION

This campaign advocates for a more comprehensive view of biodiversity considering the complex interactions between species, ecosystems, and human society. It emphasizes that every organism has a role in maintaining balanced ecosystems, and aims to raise public awareness about the interconnected nature of life. In Canada, home to 80,000 species, nearly half of monitored species are in decline, with 20% at risk of extinction, reflecting a global biodiversity crisis. The campaign highlights five major drivers of biodiversity loss—habitat loss, climate change, invasive species, overexploitation, and pollution—hoping to shed light on the severity of the issue.

THE TOPICS

Habitat Loss

Habitat Loss

Habitat loss is the number one contributor to biodiversity decline in Canada.

Climate Change

Climate Change

Climate change is characterized by rising global temperatures and increasing severity and variability of climatic events

 Invasive Species

Invasive Species

The vast majority of ecosystems on Earth are currently occupied by foreign, human-introduced species

THE INTERVIEWS

Explore our series of expert interviews highlighting critical conservation issues, including habitat loss, invasive species, overexploitation, and pollution. Gain insights from leading scientists and conservationists as they discuss challenges, solutions, and actions to protect our environment.

In this interview, Sydney Dixon from Pacific Wild discusses the pressing issue of habitat loss and its impact on wildlife and ecosystems.

Jenna White and Dr. Joe Bennett discuss the impact of invasive species on native ecosystems and efforts to manage their spread.

Karen Wristen, Nathalie Graham, and Dr. Steven Cooke discuss the effects of overexploitation on marine life and strategies for sustainable resource management.

Nathalie Graham, Karen Wristen, and Dr. Lindsay Rosa explore the impacts of pollution on wildlife and marine ecosystems.
