Aaron has been exploring the natural world since early childhood. He grew up in a small town on Georgian Bay, in the Great Lakes region of southern Ontario, where there were tons of wild places to explore. His passion and curiosity for nature led him to studying environmental science in university (B.Sc., M.Sc.) and a career managing environmental protection programs for the province of Ontario. He lives along the Grand River in southern Ontario with his wife, also an environmental scientist, and two daughters.
Aaron’s photos have been published in magazines and books, commended in photo contests, used for environmental education, and sold in charity auctions. An interior designer used some of Aaron's photos in their design for the home of an NHL superstar, which was thrilling for a small town Canadian boy like Aaron. He is a core member of Canadian Conservation, a collective of photographers who donate their art to raise funds to help conserve wildlife and wild spaces. The collective has raised tens of thousands of dollars for wildlife conservation charities in Canada.
Aaron enjoys photographing all types of wildlife, but his true passions are aquatic ecosystems and water birds. He uses a variety of techniques including floating hides, blinds, wading, swimming and kayaking to literally immerse himself in rivers, lakes and wetlands to capture eye-level images that illustrate the beauty of water birds and their aquatic environments. Aaron’s aim with his photography is to share his appreciation for the natural world and hopefully inspire the same appreciation in others.
